Switzerland Travel―Visiting Mt Schilthorn near Mürren

Mürren Flower Trail in the foothills of Mt Schilthorn

Piz Gloria restaurant at the Schilthorn's summit

The Schilthorn (2,970 meters (9,744 ft)) is a summit in Europe, in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland. It overlooks the valley of Lauterbrunnen.  It lies above the village of Mürren, from where a cable car leads to its summit.

Piz Gloria at the top of the summit is well worth a visit. Not only is it a major Bond location (many scenes were filmed at Piz Gloria for the 1969 James Bond 007 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service), but as the longest aerial cableway in the Alps, the Schilthorn/Piz Gloria provides stunning panoramic views over Switzerland. Over 200 mountain peaks in a spectacular landscape are revealed as the world's first revolving mountaintop restaurant slowly turns. Before you leave, don't forget to go to the cinema that is showing the making of the Bonds movie.  Some of the clips also display beautiful landscapes near Mt Schilthorn in different seasons.
