Hello!
I am a graduate student at Sonoma State University studying Education with a concentration in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum. This school year marks my sixth year teaching at a Continuation High School in Petaluma, CA. My passion for teaching has encouraged me to learn more about Trauma-informed care practices and strategies to use in the classroom to support my students, especially Latinx students, social and emotional well-being. Teachers are the "boots on the ground" when assisting and supporting young adult's cognitive abilities and mental health meaning we are uniquely positioned to provide help to students who may not have access to tools and resources to help themselves.
So, why are teachers not receiving adequate professional development, resources, and tools to provide students with the best care to help students maintain a safe social emotional well-being? Also, what practices would be best to support Latinx students social-emotional well-being in the classroom?
My mission is to create a website for educators, especially new teachers, to use to develop their understanding of trauma-informed practices and how they may be able to integrate trauma-informed practices in their school community and classroom to better strengthen their relationships with students. As teachers, we are always learning and finding ways to become better teachers for our students. Thank you for taking the time to check out the resources and information on trauma-informed practices and taking the initiative to create a more inclusive and caring classroom environment.
