The MBTA has made it easy for people to access different communities in Boston. People can easily board on and off the MBTA as they please. However, the safety approach with the MBTA needs to be addressed immediately.
- The light rail does not run underground, therefore it runs above ground along with automotive and pedestrian traffic. As observed earlier this week, at the intersection of Forsyth Street and Huntington Ave, there were over 150 people jaywalking within 10 minutes. That's a lot of people! This is a safety issue because they are not only jaywalking through red lights, but also crossing the green line trail, while it is operating.
- The speed of the trains near the shared roadways can cause major accidents for both pedestrians, drivers, bikers, and MBTA operators.
Public Transportation allows people to access transit easier than ever before. Because so many people are using the MBTA, it is making all of the different communities more "environment friendly". However, they should add more lines to encourage more people to use public transit rather than personal vehicles.
- Increasing the amount of lines allows people to become more aware of environmental issues that are occurring at the moment.
- On Average, people are spending about $370 on gas, per month! Meanwhile, people who take the MBTA only spend about $85 a month. If people who use their personal vehicle begin to take the MBTA, they would save almost $285 per month! That's a lot of money!! They could put this money towards other survival resources, like groceries, clothes, or even mortgage and rent.
