Wikipedia is one of the most popular reference websites online, with millions of visitors every month. There are more than 19 million articles and 82.000 active contributors.

What is TransPedia, and Why do we need it?
In this context TransPedia is the idea of translating Wikipedia to other languages. Our focus here is the translation to Arabic, but the same concept could be applied to many languages that share the same criteria. In Arabic, the need for the translation from Wikipedia is so important for many reasons:
- Although we have some other free-content web-based encyclopedias, none of them is as strong as Wikipedia in terms of massive content, links, and ontological relations.
- The content of Wikipedia become very strong and more authentic than before.
- The content of the Arabic Wikipedia is very poor if compared to other languages like English, French, and German.
- Linked data emerged by sharing in Wikipedia could help in enhancing the Arabic web content in general. That is being attained through DBbedia, the crowd-sourced community effort extracted from Wikipedia's data and considered a core of most current linked data projects.
- Translation of Wikipedia can work in closing the gab of information knowledge between the Arab world and the rest of the world.
