八九. 單鞭
(一接前式攬雀尾,雙按之。鬆腰坐左腿,扣右步, 徐徐吸氣,身左轉向南, 右手由面前向裏劃圈以肘為軸向上挑成鉤掌, 左手扶右腕內側, 面對西南, 体重移置右腿, 左腳跟提起,如圖271。
Posture 89. Single Whip
(1) Continuing from [the previous movement], relax the waist and sit on the left leg. Slowly inhale and turn the body left towards the south. Using the [right] elbow as an axis, move the right hand to the front and then circle it inward, drawing a circle and lifting it up to end in a hooked palm [to the right]. Use the left hand to support at the inside of the right wrist. Face the southwest and shift the body’s weight to the right leg while lifting the left heel, as in Figure 271.

(二).由前式鬆腰,坐實右腿,身續左轉向東,左腳東進成左弓步。右手鉤掌不動,左掌從右肩前隨身左雲,過面前手心外翻向左按平,食指與鼻尖相對,面對正東,目視左掌,氣沉丹田以貫注左掌,如圖272。
(2) [Continuing] from the previous movement, sit solidly on the right leg and continue to turn the body left towards the east. Advance the left foot towards the east to end in a left bow stance [gōng bù]. Keep the right hooked hand motionless, and wave the left palm in front of the right shoulder as the body [turns]. [Then, as the hand] passes [across] the front [of the body], flip the center of the hand outward and push towards the left at [shoulder] level. The index finger [of the left hand] should be in line with the tip of the nose. Look at the left palm and face directly towards the east. Sink the Qi to the dan-tian, and then concentrate [the Qi] into the left palm, as in Figure 272.
