卅一. 單鞭
(一).由前式鬆腰, 徐徐吸氣, 坐左腿,扣右步, 身左轉面南, 右手由面前以肘為軸, 向裏劃圓向上挑起成鉤掌, 左手扶右腕內側, 面對西南, 体重移置右腿, 左腳跟提起, 目視右掌, 如圖89。
Posture 31. Single Whip
(1) [Continuing] from the previous movement, relax the waist and slowly inhale. Sit on the left leg and turn the right foot inward, turning the body towards the left to face the south. Move the right hand in front of the face, and then using the elbow as an axis, draw an inward circle [i.e., counterclockwise] and raise the hand up to end in a hooked palm. Use the left hand to support at the inside of the right wrist. Then face the southwest, shifting the body's weight onto the right leg and lifting the left heel. Look at the right palm, as in Figure 89.

(二). 由前式鬆腰, 坐實右腿, 身續左轉對東, 左腳向東邁進成左弓步, 同時右手鉤掌不動, 左手由右肩前隨身左轉, 雲至面前, 翻成立掌豎起, 手心向前向下按平, 食指與鼻尖相對, 面對正東, 目視左掌, 如圖90。
(2) [Continuing] from the previous movement, relax the waist and sit solidly on the right leg. Continue to turn the body towards the left until facing the east. Step the left foot towards the east to end in a left bow stance. At the same time, keep the right hooked palm the same as the body turns, while moving the left hand from in front the right shoulder and [wave like] cloud [hands] until in front of the face. Then, flip the left hand over to end in a vertical standing palm. Push forward at [shoulder] level, with the center of the hand facing downwards and the index finger in line with the tip of the nose. Face directly towards the east, and look at the left palm, as in Figure 90.
