Previous: Posture 21. Slant Flying Gesture
Posture 22. Left & Right, Deflect & Parry
(1) [Continuing] from the previous movement, keep both feet in place and sit back on the right leg. Twist the body towards the right, and look at the right hand while raising it up and over towards the rear until it is slightly beneath shoulder [level] Keep the left hand in place, but flip the hand over, ending with both hands as Yang palms as in Figure 66.
Figure 66
(2) [Continuing] from the previous movement, twist the body towards the left and shift the center of gravity onto the left leg to end in a left bow stance. [At the same time], sink the left Yang palm down slightly, and raise the right palm up from the right, passing overhead, and then to the front, closing on top of the left palm as if holding a ball-shaped object. Sink the Qi to the dan-tian, and then focus [the Qi] into both hands. Face the northeast and look at the right palm, as in Figure 67.
Figure 67
(3) [Continuing] from the previous movement, relax the waist and turn the body back towards the right. Sit on the right leg, and turn the left toes inward to face the south. At the same time, keep the hands as if holding a ball-shaped object, so that as the body turns back towards the right, [the hands] deflect [bān]. Slowly sink the Qi and look at the right palm, as shown in Figure 68.
Figure 68
(4) [Continuing] from the previous movement, relax the waist and slowly inhale. Twist the body towards the left, sitting on the left leg and squatting the body down. Arrange the right foot [to point] straight [to the south] while also shifting it slightly inward. At the same time, drop the right hand down using a Yang palm, and push [àn] down with the left hand using a Yin palm. Use the right forearm to parry [lán] and press [yā] downward towards the inside. The right elbow should be in line with the left kneecap. The left palm and right elbow should be opposite of each other. Look at the right hand, as in Figure 69.
[Note: Even though this is the same as Posture 7, the text uses different characters to describe the same movement. The only difference is that the starting position different, so I don't know why steps (2) through (3) would be described differently. Step (4) of this posture includes some additional information: the right foot draws in as it straightens and the left palm should be opposite of the right elbow. Step (4) of Posture 7 also stays that the left palm should be aligned over the inside of the left knee.]
