Prof. Nirmal has expertise in ocular drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, drug transporters, and drug repurposing. His research group at the Translational Pharmaceutics Research Laboratory (TPRL) works on ophthalmic formulation development, its pre-clinical evaluation for safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics, and the application of artificial intelligence in predicting ocular toxicity. Two of his developed formulations have progressed for clinical evaluation.
Prof. Nirmal's team aims to achieve optimum therapeutics for the eye, i.e., the right drug concentration at the right target at the right time in a minimally invasive manner to treat various ocular diseases.
