In the heart of a remote forest in the Ardennes around Sedan stood an ancient manor house in ruins. Its ominous silhouette loomed over the landscape like a forgotten nightmare. It was February 1872. An icy wind howled through the trees and the moon cast sinister shadows on the manor's solid wooden door. The remains of soldiers killed in the war of 1871 still lay beneath the leaves of some of the trees, and the walls bore the scars of Prussian cannonballs. Down from the black skies, carrion crows circled the old tower.
Inside, a solitary dog, a giant pit bull, faithful companion of the owner who had died since the bombings, wandered the corridors. His eyes glowed with a ghostly, unnatural light, and his mournful howls filled the castle with a sense of disquiet.
On a moonless Candlemas night, an exhausted refugee stumbled into the manor, seeking shelter from the biting cold. Ignoring the inhabitants' warnings, she pushed open the heavy door, which creaked in protest as it revealed the haunted interior.
The dog, now a spectral guardian, watched the intruder with malicious intent. The more the poor girl ventured into the castle, the more she felt an icy grip on her soul, and the air thickened with a sense of imminent menace.
Suddenly, the door closed behind the intruder, trapping her in the castle's sinister embrace. Desperate, the refugee turned to flee, only to find herself face to face with the ghost dog, whose eyes shone with an otherworldly hunger.
The refugee's cries echoed through the night, etched forever in her chilling legend.
When the woman's body was found, the town council decided to ban pit bulls from its territory.
