How Do I AI Proof My Assignments? from Colorado State University (not all of these will actually work)
Hidden Prompts
Instructions for embedding hidden prompts: You simply put a hidden prompt (mention giraffes) in white font (some folks make it very small) in the prompt. If a student copies and pastes the prompt, they will also copy the hidden prompt. Screenshots below.
Different Forms of Contract Grading from SUNY Cortland
By "decoupling evaluation from grades," contract grading encourages students to do the work of the assignment because it rewards labor. Such an approach to grading deincentivizes AI use.
Ascertaining AI's Impact on General Education Courses
An exercise where the faculty review gen ed/core learning outcomes and see how they are impacted by AI. Generate discussion with faculty about how to highlight skill acquisition by the student. For example, at one of our institutions, the Gen Ed learning areas are:
Aesthetic Sensibility
Communication- Oral & Written
Cultural Awareness and Diversity
Ethical Perspectives
Reasoning- Scientific & Quantitative
Technological Fluency
We imagine challenging faculty in different core requirement areas to develop a paragraph that speaks to how AI impacts the learning outcome and develop a set of assignments that demonstrate for students the value of doing the “work” of acquiring the skill themselves.
