Mice are sadly prone to a handful of disease. It's inevitable. Here are some common health problems for mice & their treatments.
Mites:
What are they?
Microscopic bugs that burrow into the skin of the mice. They lay eggs on fur, bedding, or hay.
How do I treat them?
Set up a sterile cage for the infested mice
Apply a small drop of Ivermectin on the top of their head in between their ears (just enough for it to look greasy when rubbed in)
Thouroughly clean cage of old bedding
Spray everything down in Advantage Flea & Tick Spray For Dogs and let it sit
Rinse the cage off and put a small amount of bedding so you're able to monitor the mice.
URIs/Respiratory infection:
What is it?
An infection of the respiratory tract caused by bacteria, virus, fungi, or dusty bedding.
How do I treat it?
At home remedies to try:
Humidifying the mice (take them in the bathroom while taking a hot shower, or buy a humidifier)
Deep clean cage
Medical remedies:
Deep clean cage
Give Doxycycline via water bottle with about 2 mg/mL
Fungal infection:
What is it?
An infection of the skin that causes hair loss, irritation, and itching. Fungal infections are highly contagious so where gloves!
How do I treat it?
Set up a sterile enclosure for the mice
Apply Clotrimazole cream 1% to every part of the mouse that has experienced hair loss
Enclosure clean and DRY (otherwise nothing will get better)
Apply cream twice per day until there is no more patches of missing hair.
