Emergency Procedures

Hotel

Each hotel will have a SOMA medical volunteer on site. Medical room will be posted in the lobby and room will be labeled with First Aid sign. Any emergency please notify the medical staff on site and they will treat the athlete and notify the appropriate SOMA staff or Games Management Team Member.

Lost Athlete

  • Notify the Games Management Member on site at your venue. Please give as much information as possible to help with search. Information would include: Athlete Name, Gender, Clothes, Approximate height & weight, Any social ques or tendencies.
  • We recommend having an individual photo of each athlete on hand either hard copy or stored on a mobile device that will aid in the identification of a missing athlete.
  • Games Management team will initiate a search of the venue.
  • A notification of a FOUND athlete is just as important of a notification of a missing athlete. If member of the program finds the reported athlete please notify the Games Management Team so the search may be called off

Medical Information

Medical Volunteers will be on site at each venue to administer first aid. Medical Volunteers will be wearing a red vest that says first aid. Any injury or care beyond first aid, the medical volunteer will call 911 and recommend transportation to UMass Medical Marlborough

Medical Guidelines If an athlete becomes ill or injured:

  • Stay with athlete,
  • Send for assistance,
  • Have athlete application (medical) in hand for medical personnel,
  • Wait with athlete while medical personnel checks his/her condition,
  • Accompany athlete if referred back to dorm unit, hospital, or rest area

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Fluid Loss -- Dehydration is a danger. Stay hydrated by drinking water.
  • Sun burn – Make sure to apply sunscreen throughout the day
  • Medications -- Coaches should administer medications at the scheduled times. Double check that the dosages are correct and there is sufficient medicine for the weekend.

Fire and Emergency Evacuation

Familiarize yourself with the emergency evacuation procedures located in each building. Locate the exits and fire escapes. In the event of an alarm, direct everyone out and away from the danger. Listen to directions from appropriate emergency personnel
