During remote instruction, it was important for students to access an interactive document to help reinforce the class lessons, serve as a reference guide, and provide mentor elements to facilitate the successful completion of the many aspects of a research paper. This document utilizes internal and external links, images, texts, and screencasts to deliver multiple modes of instruction and reinforcement to students.
To facilitate student success, I provided them with a mentor assignment to use as a guide for their submissions.
When writing a research paper, students must master the art of summarizing. However, this is a higher-level skill that can easily revert to retelling. In this presentation, students compare and contrast the two terms to use summary effectively in their writing.
Before this lesson, my students and I discussed the conflict and theme dynamic. This helps to make the concept of theme more tangible and concrete.
Yet taking an abstract concept, such as theme, and having students write about it can be challenging. With this presentation, I review with my students how to identify and explain theme in a statement.
