Change is constant in Texas education, but it really feels like a lot is happening all at once in the Reading Language Arts world. Since state testing began in Texas in 1980 with the TABS test, the state tests have been a summative assessment. The move in the 2027-2028 school year to add shorter BOY and MOY assessments to 3rd-8th grades is going to be a big change for Texas.
Of course, RLA also has a looming "literary" works list of mandated texts as well as the mysterious "vocabulary" list to be released at an undetermined time "soon". And, CCMR accountability changes are impacting the courses and sequences for high school RLA.
As I work with curriculum friends all over the state, these changes & their consequences are what we are talking about. I want to support curriculum leaders in these conversations with short videos anchored on one question and then provide resources to continue that conversation. It is my hope that sharing "spark" questions with targeted resources will streamline and focus the ever-growing RLA curriculum team to-do lists. Input & dialogue is welcome (encouraged), so I have embedded a simple form to facilitate that.
Thank you ALL for everything that you are managing, leading, & coordinating this year. ~Tosh
