In recent weeks, Troy Riley one of our Senior Juniors has been burning up the course! His new handicap is 6, in only a couple of weeks his handicap has changed by 4! He won the Chatton Cup and also won the Silver Medal in a 36 hole event on the same weekend! As well as this great achievement, he also presented Devon in the Junior Squad and Torquay Men's team for the Palariet.
Be inspired!
Well done Troy!

As the Junior section continues to grow, we need to raise money to help support the Junior Section
We will therefore doing a Junior section charity golf day once a year.
This competition will be a fun day with all sections of the golf club invited to play. This year it will be a Four team Florida scramble.
We are going to have some additional competitions on the course, so please bring some pocket money, including beat the Junior on the 18th. This will be £2 per go.
We are very lucky to have the backing of Tolchards and therefore we will have the Tolchards van on the 10th Green to allow us to serve alcoholic and soft drinks as you go round. These will be served at 4 drinks for £10

Torquay Junior Golf would like to congratulate Troy Riley on being selected to represent Devon in the South Western Counties Golf Association U14/U16 Championship at Mendip Spring Golf Club in Somerset.
The event takes place on Friday 4th June and sees 9 juniors from each of the the 6 SW Counties compete against each other over 18 holes of strokeplay. Each 9 man team is made up of 6 x U16s and 3 x U14s and of the 9 scores the best 7 will count towards a team score.
The Devon team announced is:
U16s: Jack Dart (Churston), Stanley White (Saunton), Joel Warne (Stover), Thomas Yeo (Saunton), Thomas Hunt (Saunton), and Troy Riley (Torquay)
U14s: Noah Mulligan (Thurlestone), Donovan Bruce (Saunton) and Charlie Ashbee (Yelverton).
Mendip Spring GC is a parkland course located near Congresbury, Bristol. The Championship Course measures 6,412 yards and although the front 9 holes are quite open, it narrows dramatically on the back 9 where accuracy will be essential, as there are several water hazards and ditches ready to catch errant shots.
Well done Troy!

What is SafeGolf?
SafeGolf is a partnership of UK golf bodies committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.
The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport. Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.
SafeGolf is firstly, a website – www.safegolf.org – through which anyone with a concern about the welfare of a player, or the behaviour or practice of a coach, volunteer, organiser, parent or a player, can contact the lead safeguarding officer at their national governing body.
Secondly, it is the safeguarding standard England Golf will promote to all their affiliated clubs to ensure all clubs provide a safe and positive experience to children and young people whilst playing golf. The PGA are also using the standards to apply to all their PGA professional Coaches.

Dear Junior Section/Academy Parent,
We hope you are well and staying safe!
During lockdown we have been busy restructuring the Junior Section to include a new group of volunteers, safeguarding training to become SafeGolf accredited through England Golf, future competitions, social events and possible away day trips. You can find more information at www.torquayjuniorgolf.co.uk
Shortly, the junior annual subscriptions will be sent out to you. We have decided to structure the Junior Membership in a different way but still fairly similar to the age group categories we had before. We have incorporated the academy students into this structure and look forward to welcoming them into the section, supporting them through their golf journey and experiences at Torquay Golf Club.
Please find attached the New Junior Membership structure. The idea is that the cost of your membership will reflect the better you become and the more independent you are on the course. Please note that if you are content on not progressing with your handicap and your focus is on the social side of the junior section, then you can retain your Silver category membership.
The Junior Section will work closely with the Golf Academy to track individuals performance and to categorise the young golfer accordingly.
We will also be handing out welcome packs in the coming months with plenty of information about safeguarding policies, who’s who, contact details and forms to be signed.
We hope to see you shortly back at the club for the 2021 golf season.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate in get in touch.
Kindest regards,
Phil Bragg
Director - Junior Lead
