My Clinical Supervised Experiential Learning (SEL) experiences at skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers in Renton, Washington, Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Seattle Children's Hospital have strengthened my clinical knowledge and prepared me for professional dietetic practice.
Working with adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations, I developed skills in nutrition assessment, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition-focused physical examination (NFPE), malnutrition identification, enteral nutrition support, nutrition care planning, patient education, and documentation using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP). Collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams across diverse clinical settings has enhanced my clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, and ability to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered nutrition care.
My Community supervised experiences at Sky Lakes Community Wellness Center, the Food Dignity Foundation, the Washington State Department of Health, and Everett School District have expanded my understanding of nutrition by emphasizing prevention, education, health promotion, and community engagement. Through these experiences, I contributed to nutrition education initiatives, community resource development, public health programming, school wellness activities, food security efforts, and culturally responsive outreach.
Working with diverse populations strengthened my skills in health communication, program planning, collaboration with community partners, needs assessment, and the development of evidence-based nutrition education resources. These experiences reinforced the importance of addressing the social determinants of health and equipped me with the competencies to promote equitable access to nutrition services, empower individuals and communities, and support population health through sustainable, community-centered interventions.
My Food Service supervised experiences at skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Renton, Washington, and at the Bellingham and Everett School Districts provided valuable insight into the operational side of nutrition and dietetics.
These experiences strengthened my understanding of quantity food production, menu planning, food safety and sanitation, quality improvement, procurement, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and school nutrition programs. I also gained experience in production planning, recipe standardization, workflow efficiency, and food service operations while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, nutritious, and high-quality meals for diverse populations.
They also enhanced my leadership, problem-solving, communication, and management skills, preparing me to support efficient food service systems that promote nutrition, food safety, and positive health outcomes.
