A little bit of recent past - As all the adult children seem settled in their jobs and lives, I gave some thought to what I might try next. That was both re-visiting what made me happy in the past and what future endeavors might interest me. I decided to get back to riding a motorcycle again. I thought this through and made some decisions. First, no way I wanted to ride on the highway. There is way too many distracted drivers out there and I actually want to stay alive. Second, I thought if I didn't go on the roads at all and stuck to the trails I would be relatively safe. Lastly, I thought it would great to get my Son Zach to learn to ride and we could ride the trails together. Having a buddy to ride with is always better. He learned to ride on my Yamaha XT250 very quickly but I seriously miscalculated two things: 1) He has a busy life, work, Soccer, 3 times a week, rock climbing before work, etc. 2) The riding trails are not close to the Raleigh, NC area and it takes a lot of time to trailer the bikes and head out to ride. This is why on the tommy.lange homepage you see me in a photo with my XT250. I no longer have that motorcycle, I traded it in and purchased the BMW G310R I ride today.
This gave way to how I ride today - I decided to ride on roads posted 45 MPH or less ( I occasionally have to go a short stretch on a 55 MPH road ). No highways, I started in October 2018 and have ridden every day I could during the winter ( As low as 37 degrees ) so I could regain a comfort level by Spring 2019. It worked and my comfort level is where it needs to be. I still don't have a riding buddy but riding alone is way better than not riding at all.
