I decided to start to show some of the repairs that I completed recently. The Mercedes E55 AMG had a problem with locking.
The Problem: The doors do not lock anymore. It seems the German over-engineering has to make locking the doors as complex as possible. Part of locking / unlocking is handled by Vacuum lines which are driven by a Vacuum Pump ( PSE Pump or Pneumatic System Equipment Pump ). This pump also handles the trunk locking, gas filler door locking as well as the movement of optional contour seats. Wow, this should be fun. When this pump fails your left with doors unlocked, gas filler door unlocked and the trunk LOCKED ! The location of the pump is of course under the back seat.
The Vacuum pump itself is not tied down, it floats inside a dense foam housing. Therefore, no problem getting the part out of it's resting area. I purchased a used replacement part, they come in 2 different configs. One is the bare part, or you can get one with the vacuum hoses cut and connector wires cut. It is definitely easier and faster for a part puller to cut the lines. I elected to buy a part with cut lines for the following reasons. 1) If I should break a vacuum line connector upon the pump removal, l I would some spares from the replacement part. 2) A used part with the electrical connectors intact would ensure there would be no bent pins due to shipping the part. The replacement part installed quickly and I am happy to report all locking issues have been resolved.
