Unit I: Nature of Mathematics
This unit discusses the nature of mathematics so that we can appreciate its practical, intellectual and aesthetic dimensions. Unit II will delve more into the application of mathematical tools in our daily lives. Unit I covers the chapters of mathematics in our world and mathematical language, problem solving and reasoning.
In the chapter on Mathematics in our World, you will learn about Fibonacci numbers and the golden ratio, how mathematics helps organize patterns and regularities in the world, and how mathematics helps predict and control behavior of nature, phenomena and occurrences in the world.
The chapter on mathematical language, problem solving and reasoning covers four lessons: mathematics as a study of patterns, mathematics as problem solving and mathematics as a language and mathematics as a process of thinking.
