Bula and Konnichiwa! I am from the Fiji Islands. At the marine plant ecology lab, I study the effect of various environmental factors on the ecophysiology of Ulva prolifera (Suji Aonori) and Sargassum fusiforme (Hijiki). They are important in nutrient cycling and providing sustenance as food. However, with the rapidly changing environmental conditions, it is unknown what will happen to these important species and if they will be able to adapt or change their responses to the changing environment. I try to understand their responses to the changing environmental conditions and propose possible alternative strategies for future management of these species.
