A highly ambitious individual with a strong background in bioengineering, harnessing engineering principles to solve complex biological problems and developing the next generation of advanced in vitro models. I am a person who takes ownership of their projects and drives them forwards whilst my broad knowledge base can help provide the link between biology and engineering.
This website shows public work from my time at Mimetas and patents grated as well as the papers, abstracts and poster from my time as a PhD candidate within the institute for bioengineering at the University of Edinburgh (2014-2018).
In my time at Mimetas I have had 2 patents granted with 1 pending and my work includes the development of Organ-on-a-chip systems to generate complex human disease models, design of tool for automated alignment in production of the OrganoPlate product, XXL rockers to perform microscopy on plates under cell culture conditions, efforts to study understand and extend product shelf life, management of cleanroom facilities and small batch customer production, managing supplier transition and product upgrades, biological model troubleshooting, and evaluating sterilisation techniques for consumable and hardware products.
My PhD project incorporated tissue engineering, polymer scaffold fabrication and bioreactor design to develop a system capable of supporting kidney cell life. My work has shown the potential of electrospun polymer scaffolds in kidney tissue engineering, and I have demonstrated the use of a 3D printed bioreactor for cell conditioning. The devices I have built evenly distribute shear stresses across the bed of a scaffold, the dynamic culture results in cells with a different phenotype than those grown in static.
I obtained an integrated masters in Biomedical Engineering (MEng) (2009-2014) at the University of Sheffield. My final year project involved the creation of a microfluidic device capable of bone cell co-culture.
