It's important to BEE safe when you're around bees! Here are some tips to remember when dealing with bees:
It's important to not crowd a bee when they're trying to do their work! Getting too close to them may make them feel threatened. Try to keep a distance of at least six feet away.
Bees won't go out of their way to sting you! They only want to defend themselves, so don't brush or swat them away. If a bee gets close to you, stay still and avoid sudden movements that might startle them. They'll buzz away eventually!
If you're visiting a bee garden, make sure you wear the right clothes! Wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants along with closed-toe shoes. Because bees are attracted to bright colors, try to wear solid colors like beige or blue. Also avoid using strongly-scented soaps, detergents, and perfumes.
Tell an adult and stay calm. They will make sure that the stinger gets removed with a dull object, a cold compress is applied, and the area is elevated.
Take extra caution when you're around bees and make sure you carry an EpiPen with you if needed. If you get stung, alert an adult immediately. They will take you to the appropriate place to find medical help. If you're not sure whether you're having a serious allergic reaction, check to see if you have:
