What Are FPOs?

Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) are legally registered groups of farmers who come together to collectively manage production, processing, and marketing of their agricultural produce. These are often registered as Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) under the Companies Act.

Objectives:

• Empower small and marginal farmers

• Improve access to quality inputs, credit, and markets

• Facilitate value addition and agri-business ventures

• Promote sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture

Tamil Nadu FPO Policy

In 2020, the state launched the Tamil Nadu Policy for Promotion of FPOs, aiming to:

• Build equitable agri-value chains

• Enable collective bargaining power

• Collaborate with academia, civil society, and private sector
