Lightning Damage

From 2016 - 2019, my research primarly focused on lightning damage of CFRP materials. The primary aim was to determine the structural response of a CFRP material after damage. This was acheived through a modelling concise modelling and experimental framework which allows users to understand the structural response of a CFRP which has been damaged by lightning. The following articles were published which has highlighted my work:

  • T M Harrell, O T Thomsen, J M Dulieu-Barton, and S F Madsen, “Damage in CFRP composites subjected to simulated lightning strikes - Assessment of thermal and mechanical responses,” Compos. Part B Eng., vol. 176, no. July, p. 107298, Nov. 2019. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.compositesb.2019.107298

Awarded: “Best paper by young researcher award.” Selected by International Conference on Lightning and Static Electricity board.
