This module is designed around a lesson plan framework that can be adapted to different instructional activities. The focus is reading comprehension, so while parts of this module will address all components of reading as a unified skill set the strategies section will target comprehension.
Plan on this taking two or three hours to complete, with an additional follow-up classroom implementation activity involving a group of your students. The classroom implementation document can be found here. Download this document so you can be filling it out as you progress through the module activities.
The main sections of this module are:
Overview
Activities
Classroom Implementation
Module Objectives - Participants will:
Design an instructional activity based on the B.E.S.T Standards.
Use tiered instruction to address a skill or achievement gap.
Identify one or more strategies that support reading comprehension.
Identify one or more technology tools that support reading comprehension.
There are four activity sections in this module. In each of these sections, you will review the content and then complete an activity using the activity document as you prepare for your classroom implementation.

As you go through the activities in this module, you will be preparing an instructional activity to address the needs of a small group of students using the classroom implementation document. Each section of the module ends with instructions on completing this document.
As you design your instruction keep the following in mind:
Identify the expected outcomes.
Identify the data/evidence you will collect for progress monitoring.
Consider how you could use these strategies and tools with your whole class.
Consider how you will share your results with your peers.
Be sure to read through the entire classroom implementation document to see all of the planning activities.
