Science Communication is one of my favourite things! Being a researcher, and a scientist should not only mean sitting on your desk 24/7 and coding. I believe there is no point in doing science if you do not talk about it with someone.
It is always fun to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with peers in your group, academics in other universities and members of the public. In fact, it is always the most fun to talk science with kids, since they ask the best questions, sometimes related to dinosaurs in space!
Being able to inspire people even just a little bit is a great feeling.
AstroSoc - UoB (2017-2020)
As a former committee member of the University of Birmingham Astronomical Society, I have got involved in various outreach events during my time at the University of Birmingham.
We designed a whole set of constellations in collaboration with the Bing Bang Fair which were popular amongst 3 continents, check it out! We stargazed with brownies, visited Old People's Homes and organised countless public guest speaker talks.
Using a planetarium in the middle of the New Street Train Station as a part of British Science Week, and teaching people about my favourite sky objects lies amongst my favourite event that I participated.
