Outreach

Science Communication is one of my favourite things! Being a researcher, and a scientist should not only mean sitting on your desk 24/7 and coding. I believe there is no point in doing science if you do not talk about it with someone.

It is always fun to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with peers in your group, academics in other universities and members of the public. In fact, it is always the most fun to talk science with kids, since they ask the best questions, sometimes related to dinosaurs in space!

Being able to inspire people even just a little bit is a great feeling.

New Horizon Astronomy and Space Initiation - (2021-present)

New Horizon is the first non-profitable astronomy initiative of North Cyprus, aimed to promote interest in astronomy across all age groups and backgrounds, and to encourage peace in the Cypriot communities.

Astronomical Society - University of Birmingham (2017-2020)

As a former committee member of the award winning University of Birmingham Astronomical Society, I took part in a wide range of outreach activities during my time at the university. In collaboration with the Big Bang Fair, we designed a set of constellation-themed resources to inspire interest across three continents; check it out.

We also stargazed with schoolchildren, visited care homes, and organised public guest speaker events. One of my favourite outreach experiences was taking part in British Science Week, where we used a planetarium in the middle of New Street Station to teach the public about the night sky and share some of their favourite celestial objects.

To promote Astrophysics and encourage STEM subjects to woman and non-binary individuals, I delivered a talk on my career path, and current extragalactic research.
Guest Speaker - AstroSoc Quarantine Talk Series. (2020)
Delivered a public talk about the lifetime journeys of the famous, retired Spitzer telescope. Here is a link to the talk uploaded on AstroSoc's Youtube Chanel.
Chair/AstroSoc - Outreach Events (winner of the 2019 & 2020 EPS Outreach: Continued Excellence Award)
Secretary/AstroSoc - BSW Exploration and Discovery in Space workshops (winner of the 2018 EPS Outstanding Event Award)

For welcoming 120 school children for British Science Week and running lots of educational events during the day, AstroSoc organized an outstanding event!
