Hi! I'm a Cypriot astronomer working on galaxy evolution!
Hello! I am Tutku, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Nottingham. I obtained my PhD from the Astrophysics Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University. My research interests are mainly in extragalactic astronomy, and I currently study the inflow of gas towards the nuclei of galaxies.
I also have a growing interest in the low-surface-brightness universe, particularly the diffuse intracluster light found within galaxy clusters.
I am from Northern Cyprus, where we are lucky to have crystal-clear night skies for stargazing and hunting constellations. As a child, I was fascinated by the myths behind different constellations and their heroes, so I am fairly sure it was mythology that first pulled me into astronomy.
I am also passionate about science communication and outreach. I love discussing science with the public, especially with children. They ask the best questions, and somehow always know random facts I have never heard before.
Outside of research, I enjoy procrastinating by drawing, playing the piano, watching films, wandering around old cities, and drinking wine, which I strongly believe counts as a hobby.
