Research in the Kang group will be center on challenges and opportunities in organic chemistry and polymer chemistry. Our goal will be to advance the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of organic reactions and polymer materials.
Novel Organic & Polymer Synthetic Methods
A core aim of the Kang group is to develop innovative synthetic methodologies in organic chemistry, leveraging simple starting materials to construct complex molecules. We are particularly interested in employing transition metal catalysis and modern organic chemistry techniques to achieve these transformations. Furthermore, we will pursue the development of novel monomer and polymer synthetic methodologies, alongside exploring their unique properties and potential applications.
Polymer Recycling and Upcycling
The escalating issue of plastic waste presents a pressing global challenge. Addressing the unsustainable levels of plastic waste generation requires groundbreaking approaches in recycling and upcycling to reduce waste, and support a circular plastic economy. Using our expertise in organic chemistry, the Kang group will investigate novel strategies for recycling and upcycling plastics to drive sustainable advancements in polymer chemistry.
