AP Latin

Here are some things you may want to do this summer but by no means required to do:

  1. Look over vocabulary – reference the packet that targets most frequent words in the Aeneid. The more you know going in, the happier you will be! This can also include the English translation of the Aeneid which you received on the last day (yellow paperback).
  2. You can review if you want any grammar points you are shaky on! Reference the pink/black amsco book you’ve been given or go to www.tabney.com
  3. Practice reading Latin – you have the orange workbook with additional readings (including more Eutropius, more Caesar, other poets). There are also some great review activities you might find useful.

French

French students at all levels are encouraged to explore the two websites below. They contain a variety of resources: songs, commercials, short videos, movie trailers, all with very good exercises.

Spanish

10 ways to keep your Spanish language skills alive during the summer

  1. Visit an authentic Hispanic restaurant and speak Spanish with the waiters. Suggestions include: La Granja de oro, Cuba Libre, Las Tapas, La Paz, Anita’s, ect.
  2. Watch movies you have enjoyed in the past in Spanish. You can put subtitles in Spanish but DO NOT put subtitles in English! It defeats the purpose.
  3. Watch Spanish series on Netflix such as “Gran Hotel”, Alta Mar (High Seas), etc.
  4. Listen and sing along to Spanish music. Favorite songs from class include: La bicicleta (Shakira y Carlos Vives), Un Día es un siglo sin ti (Chayenne), Magia (Andrés Cepeda), La playa (Oreja de Van Gogh), Quien te quiere como yo (Carlos Baute), etc.
  5. Go online and read the news or about anything you find interesting in Spanish. (www.bbcmundo.com , www.univision.com , etc.)
  6. Write/message/Facetime your classmates and friends in Spanish instead of English.
  7. Go shopping and ask if there is a Spanish-speaking clerk who can help you. Then ask them for help in Spanish. Tell them you are a student and want to practice your Spanish.
  8. Play games in Spanish. (Scrabble, Gestures, Heads Up , practice on line, www.conjuguemos.com , etc.)
  9. Review your verb endings by making up a game and playing it with yourself or a friend.
  10. Keep a diary in Spanish about your summer adventures.
