Be a Contributor

Contributions are open to all current GTCC students. If you have an idea for a news article, advice column, opinion piece, cartoon, or anything else that would be a good fit for the newspaper, we would love to hear from you. Here is how the process works:

  1. Attend a planning meeting. Titan Shout meets 3 p.m. Mondays in 112 James Williams Hall on the Jamestown campus. Join our e-mail list, and you will receive weekly updates. We tend to focus on planning the meeting following an issue's release, so if an issue is published on the first Friday of a month, we try to determine the next issue's content during the following Monday's meeting.

  2. Pitch (suggest) your idea during the meeting. We may ask you a few questions to get a better idea of what you have in mind and offer a few suggestions as well.

  3. Once your piece is approved, read the Titan Shout's Journalistic Standards and Practices. If you are a first-time contributor, take the Orientation Quiz in our Moodle course.

  4. Submit a first draft of your piece via the appropriate forum in the Titan Shout Moodle course by the first draft due date.

  5. Wait for feedback and revise if needed.

  6. Sit back and wait for publication.

Titan Shout is also seeking students to help out in the following areas:

  • Publicity/social media: helping to keep our Instagram and Facebook up to date and using them to promote the upcoming issue (currently, a shared responsibility)

  • Graphic design: designing promotional posters and supplemental art elements for the newspaper as needed

  • Web design: assisting with layout and issue design

If you have experience in these fields, we would love to have you on board.
