The Torment Below the Grave
My tomb lies white and pallid
For no life can exist below
No flowers, no peace, no joy
Into the depths I must go
I behold the beast aflame
Shattering his chains to arise
A basilisk of spitting fire
With a forked tongue and slit eyes
His horns in trinity, his tail in curls
Smoke bellows from his nose
For all around swarms this vortex
Through its wellspring he rose
Atop the mountains a burning flow
Linking the chasms at their base
In the torment I see him clear
The wrath of a cold and rust’hued face
My flesh dangles in the flames
My teeth in agony gnash
The stench singes my eyes
Reeking of sulfur and ash
A place of wailing grief
In this world I’m caged
Silently this place dwells
Beneath my lonely grave
