"To dance significantly means through the medium of discipline and by means of a sensitive, strong instrument, to bring into focus unhackneyed movement: a human being… In a dancer’s body, we as audience must see ourselves, not the imitated behavior of everyday actions, not the phenomena of nature, not exotic creatures from another planet, but something of the miracle that is a human being, motivated, disciplined, concentrated. Leonce Wilkins Campbell hailing from Greenville NC where I studied dance at East Carolina University to now reside in Charlotte NC with a degree in Contemporary Dance from the University of NC School of the Arts. What excites me is being able to utilize my talents to teach young children and adults how to dance. (or at least gain the knowledge of dance theory ).
From my experience, this journey has been rough, but I have an awesome support system with the help of family and friends. Being an educator is a dream of mine outside of performing on the stage. Outside the classroom, I help improve technique through creative movement for children ages 3-6 with Leaps N Bounds Co. I enjoy what I do every day to inspire new artists. My ultimate goal is to help students understand performing arts can be many things if you allow yourself the chance to learn.
I figured one day I will have my own studio... I hope to see more growth with the children I assist and reach each day. Overall I am proud of the woman I’ve become for my future family. Until then I will love my family, fur baby, and dance...
