Safety & Ethical Concerns

Our project involves relatively few risks, either to the user or others, but there are some aspect of the project that should be kept in mind to ensure safe and ethical use.

The chamber contains elements which could be hazardous to the user. Namely, the heating cord should not be touched directly when switched on because it can burn the skin, and potassium nitrate (one of the salts used in solution to control the humidity within the chamber) is a skin irritant, so this salt solution should not be directly touched either. The same salt is also flammable, so open flames should be kept away from the chamber. Additionally, the user should remember that the chamber contains open trays of liquid, so any movement of the chamber after the salt baths have been set up should be slow, careful, and minimal, to avoid spillage.

If these concerns are considered by the user, safe and ethical use of the chamber will be easy to achieve.
