Tips for Tips is designed to help users understand tipping customs in the United States and provide tools for calculating tips, splitting bills, scanning receipts, taking notes, and converting currencies.

Privacy is an important part of the app's design. Tips for Tips uses a local-first approach: the personal app data you create is generally stored on your device rather than on Tips for Tips servers.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Tips for Tips iOS application.

1. The Short Version

Tips for Tips:

• Does not require you to create an account.

• Does not sell your personal information.

• Does not use your information for targeted advertising.

• Does not track you across apps or websites.

• Does not contain third-party advertising.

• Does not upload your receipts to Tips for Tips servers.

• Processes receipt text recognition on your device using Apple Vision.

• Stores receipts, calculations, splits, notes, settings, and related app information locally on your device.

• Only contacts an external exchange-rate service when currency-rate information is required.

• Allows you to export or delete your locally stored app data.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

Depending on the features you use, Tips for Tips may store information including:

• Tip calculations

• Saved calculation history

• Bill-splitting information

• Participant names entered for bill splitting

• Receipt images

• Receipt thumbnails

• Recognized receipt text

• Merchant names

• Receipt dates

• Subtotals

• Tax amounts

• Totals

• Detected service charges or gratuities

• Receipt notes

• General notes created in the app

• App preferences

• Home currency

• Default tip settings

• Rounding preferences

• Onboarding status

• Favorite currencies

• Recently used currency pairs

• Cached exchange rates

• Tipping-guide bookmarks and recently viewed guide items

• Local migration and recovery information needed to safely update older app data

This information is stored inside the app's local iOS storage container.

Tips for Tips does not operate a cloud account or server-side database containing this information.

3. Receipt Scanning

Tips for Tips can scan a receipt using your device camera or an image you select from your photo library.

Receipt text recognition is performed on your device using Apple's Vision framework.

The app may temporarily process information such as:

• Merchant names

• Dates

• Currency

• Subtotals

• Taxes

• Totals

• Service charges

• Suggested gratuities

• Other text visible on a receipt

Receipt images and recognized receipt information are not sent to Tips for Tips servers for recognition.

They are not sent to the currency exchange-rate provider.

Receipt recognition is automated and may be inaccurate. You are asked to review detected values before relying on them.

4. Camera Access

Tips for Tips requests camera access only when you choose to photograph a receipt.

Camera access is used to capture the image you requested.

The app does not continuously access your camera and does not use camera information for advertising, tracking, profiling, or analytics.

You can decline camera permission and continue using manual receipt entry and other app features.

Camera permission can be changed through iOS Settings.

5. Photo Library Access

Tips for Tips allows you to choose an existing receipt image from your photo library.

Images you select are used for the receipt-scanning or receipt-storage feature you requested.

Tips for Tips does not use your photo library to build a profile about you, serve advertising, or track your activity.

You can use the app without selecting photos by entering receipt information manually.

6. Currency Conversion and Network Requests

Most Tips for Tips features operate locally.

When a current currency exchange rate is needed, the app sends a network request to the Frankfurter exchange-rate API.

The request contains the currency codes needed to retrieve the exchange rate, such as:

USD → EUR

Tips for Tips does not send the following to Frankfurter as part of that request:

• The monetary amount you entered

• Receipt images

• Recognized receipt text

• Merchant information

• Notes

• Calculation history

• Split-bill information

• Your name

• An Tips for Tips account identifier, because the app does not require an account

The returned rate may be cached locally on your device so that it can be reused temporarily or when a newer rate cannot be retrieved.

Frankfurter is an independent third-party service. Its handling of network requests is governed by its own policies and infrastructure.

7. Analytics, Advertising and Tracking

Tips for Tips does not use app activity to create advertising profiles.

The app does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Tips for Tips does not use receipt contents for advertising or analytics.

Apple may independently process App Store, device, crash, diagnostic, or other information in accordance with your Apple settings and Apple's privacy policies. That processing is controlled by Apple and is separate from data collected by Tips for Tips itself.

8. App Preferences and Required iOS APIs

Tips for Tips uses standard iOS storage mechanisms, including local files and UserDefaults, to remember app preferences and locally created information.

Examples include:

• Your preferred home currency

• Default tip percentage

• Tip calculation preference

• Recently used currency pairs

• Favorite currencies

• Guide bookmarks

• Onboarding status

These values are used to provide app functionality and remember your choices.

9. Exporting Your Data

Tips for Tips provides an optional Export App Data feature.

When you request an export, the app creates a package locally containing available app information. Depending on your data, this can include:

• Preferences

• Receipts

• Receipt images and thumbnails

• Calculations

• Saved splits

• Notes

• Guide information

• Currency preferences and cached information

• An export manifest describing the contents

Creating an export does not automatically upload it anywhere.

The iOS share sheet allows you to decide whether to save or send the export to another location.

If you choose to share an export using another application or service, that application's or service's privacy policy applies after the data is transferred.

Exported files may contain personal or financial information you entered into the app. Review where you are sending an export before sharing it.

10. Deleting Your Data

Tips for Tips provides data-management controls within the app.

Go to:

Settings → Data Management

You can remove categories of information including:

• Receipts and receipt images

• Calculations and calculation history

• Saved splits

• Notes

• Cached currency rates

• Favorite currencies

• Recent currency pairs

• Guide bookmarks and recent activity

• Preferences

• Onboarding information

• Migration or recovery information

• Temporary export files

You can also choose Delete All Local Data.

Deletion performed through these controls applies to the local app data managed by Tips for Tips on that device.

Information that you previously exported, shared with another service, copied elsewhere, or included in a device backup may exist outside the app and must be managed separately.

11. Data Retention

Locally stored app information generally remains on your device until:

• You delete individual records;

• You delete a category through Data Management;

• You use Delete All Local Data; or

• The app's local storage is removed through iOS.

Tips for Tips does not maintain a separate server-side copy of your receipts, calculations, notes, or saved splits.

12. Data Security

Tips for Tips stores local information within the application's iOS storage environment and relies on the security protections provided by iOS and your device.

No computer system or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You should protect your device with appropriate security measures such as a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID where available.

Tips for Tips should not be treated as a secure vault for highly sensitive information. Avoid entering information such as:

• Credit card numbers

• Bank-account credentials

• Passwords

• Social Security numbers

• Passport numbers

• Authentication codes

• Other highly sensitive personal information

13. Information You Send to Support

If you contact Tips for Tips support, you may voluntarily provide information such as:

• Your email address

• Your name

• A description of the problem

• Screenshots

• Device or iOS information

• App version information

• Other information you choose to include

Support communications are separate from the data stored locally by the app.

Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, banking information, or other sensitive information when requesting support.

14. Third-Party Services and Links

Tips for Tips may interact with or link to services operated by other organizations.

These can include:

• Frankfurter for exchange-rate information

• Apple services and iOS functionality

• Your chosen email application

• Applications or services you select through the iOS share sheet

• External webpages opened from the app

Tips for Tips does not control the privacy practices of these third parties.

You should review their privacy policies if you want to understand how they handle information.

15. Children's Privacy

Tips for Tips does not require an account and does not operate a system intended to collect personal information from children.

If a user contacts support, any information contained in that message is voluntarily provided through the chosen communication method.

If you believe personal information relating to a child has been provided directly to Tips for Tips through a support communication and should be removed, please contact us.

16. International Users

Tips for Tips may be used by travelers and users located throughout the world.

Most app-created information remains locally on the user's device.

Network requests made to third-party services, information voluntarily sent through support communications, or data deliberately exported to another service may be processed in locations determined by those service providers.

17. No Sale of Personal Information

Tips for Tips does not sell personal information.

Tips for Tips does not rent personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

Tips for Tips does not use locally stored receipts, calculations, notes, or split information to build advertising profiles.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when Tips for Tips changes, new features are introduced, third-party services change, or legal and platform requirements are updated.

When the policy is changed, the Last Updated date at the top of this page will be revised.

Material changes may also be communicated through the app or its App Store information when appropriate.
