Receipt scanning uses on-device text recognition and may occasionally have difficulty with unusual fonts, faded receipts, low lighting, reflections, handwritten information, or complicated receipt layouts.
Try:
Taking the photo in good lighting
Keeping the receipt flat
Making sure the entire receipt is visible
Avoiding shadows and reflections
Retaking the photo closer to the receipt
You can always review and correct detected values before saving.
If scanning still does not work, choose Enter Values Manually. A receipt photo is optional.
Receipt recognition is intended to help enter information faster, not to make financial decisions for you.
The app may detect totals, taxes, service charges, gratuities, and other amounts incorrectly. Always review the detected information against the original receipt before calculating or paying a tip.
No.
Receipt images and recognized receipt text are processed and stored locally on your device. Receipt text recognition uses Apple Vision on-device.
Receipt content is not sent to the currency exchange-rate service.
Camera access is used only when you choose to photograph a receipt.
You can use Tips for Tips without scanning receipts and can enter receipt information manually instead.
Photo access allows you to select an existing receipt image from your photo library.
The app does not use your photo library for advertising, analytics, or profiling.
Live currency conversion requires an internet connection when there is no usable saved exchange rate.
Try:
Checking your internet connection
Trying the conversion again
Confirming that both currencies are supported
Checking whether a saved rate is being displayed instead
Tips for Tips uses reference exchange-rate data supplied by the Frankfurter currency API.
Exchange rates shown in Tips for Tips are reference rates.
Your bank, card issuer, ATM provider, payment processor, hotel, restaurant, or currency exchange service may use a different rate and may also charge foreign-transaction fees or conversion fees.
The currency converter is designed as a travel convenience and should not be treated as a guaranteed transaction rate.
Most of the app can be used offline.
Tip calculations, bill splitting, saved receipts, notes, tipping guidance, and other locally stored features do not require a continuous internet connection.
Current currency exchange rates require a connection when an appropriate saved rate is not available.
Where editing is available, review and correct the information before relying on the result.
Receipt scanning is specifically designed to require review because detected totals, taxes, service charges, and gratuities may not always be interpreted correctly.

You can also use Delete All Local Data to remove the app’s locally stored data from your device.
Deletion cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep first.

Go to:
Settings → Export App Data
Tips for Tips creates an export package containing available app data such as preferences, saved receipts, calculations, saved splits, notes, guide information, currency information, and receipt images.
The export stays under your control until you choose where to share or save it using the iOS share sheet.
Remember that once you send an export to another app, cloud service, person, or storage provider, that destination’s privacy and security practices apply.

Tips for Tips provides informational guidance based on commonly recognized tipping customs in the United States.
Tipping practices can differ by location, business, service type, and circumstance. Businesses may also add service charges, gratuities, hospitality fees, or other charges.
Always review your bill.
No.
Suggested tips are guidance only.
You remain completely in control of the amount you choose to leave, including entering a custom amount where available.
Tipping is personal, and your decision can take into account the service received, local customs, charges already included in the bill, and your own budget.
Check the receipt carefully before adding another tip.
Automatic gratuities and service charges may already be included, particularly for larger groups or certain restaurants and hotels.
If it is unclear whether a charge is intended to replace a tip, ask the business.
Tips for Tips is built to make an often confusing part of visiting the United States easier.
If you encounter a confusing screen, believe the tipping guidance could be clearer, discover a service we have not covered, or have an idea for a useful feature, please send your feedback to:

Tipping recommendations are not legal, tax, employment, financial, or professional advice. Tipping practices, wage laws, taxes, service charges, and business policies can change and can vary between states, cities, businesses, and service providers.
Currency conversions are estimates based on available reference exchange rates and may differ from the rate actually used for a transaction.
Always review the original bill, receipt, and payment information before completing a transaction.
