Timothy J. Pawl, PhD Professor of Philosophy The University of St. Thomas
My name is Tim Pawl. I am a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, Minnesota. My research is primarily interdisciplinary, focusing on the intersections of metaphysics & theology and virtue theory & psychology.
Concerning theology, I like to find the most difficult metaphysical objections to traditional Christian doctrines, assessing whether they show the doctrines to be false. I've written a few books on the matter; I haven't found a successful objection yet, but I'm still looking.
Concerning psychology, I like to ask whether the account of the theory and practice of virtue found in the Christian Moral Wisdom tradition fits well or poorly with the findings of contemporary psychology about virtue and habit formation. So far, I find strong corroboration.
I am the husband of another philosopher: her name is Faith Glavey Pawl. Together we write a Substack, Pawline Epistles. Click the link below to check it out. I am the proud father of one son and four daughters. We enjoy life in the Twin Cities.
