ASKING AND GIVING PERMISSION

1. Pengertian

Asking permission berarti meminta izin dari seseorang, giving permission sebaliknya memberikan izin. Berikut adalah contoh-contoh ekspresi/ungkapan meminta sekaligus memberikan izin.

2. Asking for Permission

• Would you mind if I sit here?
  (apa tidak apa apa jika aku duduk disini?)

• Shall I bring you a pillow?
  (haruskah aku membawakanmu bantal?)

• Can I do the dishes for you?
  (bisakah aku mencuci piring untukmu?)

• Shall I help you with your project?
  (haruskah aku menolongmu dengan tugasmu?)

• Can I borrow your book, please?
  (Bisakah aku meminjam bukumu, tolong?)

• Would you mind if I ask you something?
  (Bolehkah aku bertanya sesuatu?)

• May I bring my phone to school?
  (Bisakah aku membawa ponselku ke sekolah?)

• May I go out tonight mom?
  (Bisakah aku pergi malam ini ibu?)

• Is it okay if I turn off the TV?
  (apa tidak apa-apa jika aku mematikan televisi?)

• Can I keep the dog mom?
  (Bisakah aku memelihara anjing ini, Bu?)

3. Giving Permission

• Yes, Please.

• Sure,

• Go ahead.

• Absolutely sure.

• Yes, Please do.

• No problem.

4. Refusing Permission

• No, sorry.

• No, you can't.

• No, Please don't.

• I think you shouldn't do it.

• No, I think it's impossible.

Dialogue 1

Ghania, eight years old, is asking her mother for permission to use the computer.

Ghania: Please mum, can I use the computer?

Her mother: No, dear you can't. It's time to go to bed.

Ghania: May I read a story before I sleep?

Her mother: Sure! But try to sleep early.

Ghania: Thanks a lot mummy.

Dialogue 2

Roni: Tan, It’s very hot in this room. Can I open the windows and the door?

Tania: Sure. And you can turn on the fan, too.

Roni: Okay tan, Thank you.

Tania: You’re welcome.

Dialogue 3

Receptionist: The doctors are on the way going here. We’re sorry for that. Please wait a minute.

Patient: May I go to the toilet before the doctors come?

Receptionist: Yes, please. The toilet is located in the corner.
