A 2016 study by the Education University of Hong Kong showed that when asked about what they thought of refugees, 61.1% said they 'made society unsafe' and 37.5% said they 'cause a disturbance to the community'. This is only a small part of a very disturbing trend, highlighting the injustices and intolerance in our society.
Hong Kong has not signed the refugee convention of 1951, but has signed the Convention Against Torture (1992), meaning those at risk of torture have the right to stay - but not work, instead waiting for years while their claims are considered.
