Tilia Quartett (English)

The Tilia-Quartett was founded by members of Staatskapelle Berlin: Eva Römisch, born in Stuttgart, won several young musicians awards and went to Berlin to study with violin-teachers Uwe-Martin Haiberg and Ulf Wallin. Even before graduating she became a member of Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. After attending the Berlin Special Education School for Music and the Bolzano Conservatory (Italy), violinist Andreas Jentzsch concluded his studies in his home town Berlin with Joachim Scholz and Michael Mücke. He also was a prize-winner at the “Musica Senza Frontiere” competition in 1995 and joined Staatskapelle in 2002. Wolfgang Hinzpeter, native of Hamburg, went to Hannover to study viola with Hatto Beyerle. After his first job at the “Rheinoper” (Duisburg) he changed to Staatskapelle in 1999. Since 1998 he is also a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. Cellist Johanna Helm, born in Bremen, was educated in Lübeck and Berlin, where she studied with Jens Peter Maintz. She was awarded with scholarships e.g. from Oscar and Vera Ritter-Foundation and Jütting-Foundation. Since 2011 she is a member of Berlin Staatskapelle.

The Tilia-Quartett is named after the Boulevard “Unter den Linden” (Linde=lime-tree=tilia), where it is located at the Staatsoper (German National Opera).

Tilia-Quartett not only regularly feature in the concert series of the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonic, they have also held numerous well-received concerts at home and abroad and have been invited to perform at international festivals. According to German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk, their interpretation of Verdi's string quartet is breath-taking in its richness and subtlety. The German daily Husumer Nachrichten commends the Tilia Quartet for their outstanding performance, and the Austrian newspaper Neuer Merker from Vienna concludes that it is difficult to imagine a clearer, fresher and more balanced sound.
