The text is accompanied with the commentary of Ānandabodhendra-Sarasvatī, pupil of Gangādharendra-Sarasvatī, disciple of Rāmacandrendra-Sarasvatī, disciple of Sarvajña-Sarasvatī.
The mūla is a work in six Prakaraṇas treating mainly of Yoga and Advaita-Vedānta by means of illustrative stories. The work is attributed to Vālmīki and is said to have been first taught to Rāma by Vaṣiṣṭha The six Prakaraṇas are (1) Vairāgya (2) Mumukṣutva (3) Utpatti (4) Sthiti (5) Upasama and (6) Nirvāṇa.
