About the Class

Information Systems Strategy and Management 616 is a study of topics in technology and how they can be utilized to support management and strong decisions.  This course encompassed articles and reviews related to key technology issues and questions along with the opportunity to explore a variety of analytic tools and how to use them in daily practice. 

The topics and projects related to data visualization were of particular interest.  Visuals can be easy to create and are extremely useful to analyze data and community to colleagues,  teams, and leaders.  Below you will find links to additional information on each topic covered in the course along with links to some of my individual projects and assignments.

Course Topics

Introduction to Business Intelligence and Business Analytics. Importance, and Organization of Internet Resources

A description of business analytics and why are they important today.

BI, Data Warehousing, Scenario Analysis

Exploration of data warehousing concepts and how they can be applied in BI and BA. Gain experience using tools like Excel Scenario Manager to explore the benefits of new tools. 

Reporting, Visualizing and Exploring Data using Tableau & GIS 

Learning basics of descriptive analytics with business reporting and visualizations.  Use visual analytics tools, like Tableau, to present data visually.

Linear Optimization

Learn the applications for linear optimization and evaluate the impact of changes using Excel's Solver.

Simulation Modeling and Forecasting

A description of models, how they are created, when they are needed, and how to use them. The module allows students to build their own models for future financial planning. 

Data Mining

Understand how data can be used to create models, find patterns, and test those patterns and models. 

The module focuses on using data in predictive analysis to make inferences with large unorganized sets of data.  IBM SPSS utilization was part of the model for gaining

knowledge and skill in predictive analysis. 


Big Data

Learn how large data sets are used in relation to human behavior and interactions. 

Understand why the data is important to companies for looking at patterns, trends, and relationships within the data.
