“The Nature of Man” explores the connection between humans and nature. How we, as a people, are shaped and are a product of our environment. It is also a display of growth into something more than what we think we are, succumbing to change and the sublime feeling of not truly knowing what comes next. This anxiety over a change in our environments links us all especially in our current political and ecological climate. In essence “The Nature of Man” shows the vital coexistence of man and nature- we rely on nature to allow us to flourish just as nature relies on us in this new age to provide a hospitable climate. It's impossible to talk about this piece without discussing the piece's clear inspiration, the vitruvian man by Leonardo DaVinci. A drawing thought to be symbolic of DaVinci’s own belief that the workings of the human body are an analogy or microcosm of the workings of the universe. This piece is a reflection of the statement I am the universe experiencing itself, from the most insignificant tree branch to the complexity of a human. I simply am.
