Out of focus, eyes blur into one cyclopic vision. Noses close enough so that tips brush. Hushed whispers uttered against the soft fabric, caressing the side of her cheek. Hands reaching, palm to palm grasping into infinity. Eternity turns into dust as the blush paints its way across his face. Heartbeats become one with the timeless rhythm of devotion, pulsating through time. Despite these lovers originating from 9000 BC Jerusalem, their act of love brings us directly in contact with our Neolithic ancestors. Bending knees blend into arched backs compounding then and now. The Ain Sakhri Lovers connect us with the essential act of recreation which binds us together with our ancestors of the past. The simplicity of design and intimacy of the piece allow us all to see ourselves, and loved ones within the sculpture. Utilising modern 3D printing facilities, we have brought this ancient piece into the University of York environment. Where we can find connections to our ancestors, and our shared experiences of life.
