Tournament Format
When: Sunday April 5th, 7:00pm EST
Format: Swiss, CFC Quick rated, 5 rounds
CFC Membership required ---> purchase membership here: https://www.chess.ca/en/players/membership-join/
If you only want to play in this tournament, but not future ones, you can consider the single tournament fee (not recommended)
Single tournament fees must be paid to the CFC directly. Contact the CFC for how to pay single tournament fees, and the relevant information surrounding. CFC email: info@chess.ca
Sections: 1 section only (open). If at least 20 players, we will have 2 sections (Open and U1500)
Platform: Lichess.org
Time Control: 10+5. 1 minute break in between each round

Registration Deadline: Sunday April 5th, 7:00pm EST (Toronto Time)
Both the registration form must be filled out and payment made by this deadline

Prize Distribution (UPDATED MARCH 23RD, 2026)
33% of registration fees ($5 per player) go to cash prizes
the next 33% go to the CFC for rating fees
the next 33% go to the organizer (me) for adminstrative fees
if there are 10 or less registered players, there is only cash prize for 1st place
if 11-20 players, there is for both 1st and 2nd (1st gets 67% of cash prize, 2nd gets 33%)
and so on....
Byes
1/2-point bye for the First Round ONLY. must be requested at least one day prior to the tournament, otherwise it is a 0-point bye (mention in registration form)
0 Point byes will be given if you cannot make it to any other round.
if you are the odd one out when being paired, lichess will give you a 1-point bye (which will count)
Fair Play Policy
- If you are suspected of cheating or violating terms of service in a tournament, you risk the possibility of being banned from the club and receiving a short-term suspension from playing in CFC tournaments (the CFC issues the suspension).
- Lichess's decision is the general decision for whether you are banned or not, however there are possible exceptions
- For however long the CFC suspends you for, that is also how long you are suspended from the club
- In addition, you are not allowed to communicate to other players in the tournament, through email, private messages, etc.
