The flag does not make a person or a group who they are. Who they are as a person or a group is what makes the flag. Like was stated about the swastika, to a different group at a different time it meant something different.
I was born in the Heart of Dixie, and proud of it. I’ve traveled a bit of the world but I’m back here in the Heart of Dixie because the people are great and the weather’s been just fine. That emblem has been called the Dixie Flag even though it is usually flown more from the front of a car or truck than from a flag pole or the Civil War battle sites.
I grew up seeing that emblem on flags, tags and apparel and never thought for the first time that it was a tromp on the negro race until all this recent commotion from these politically anal groups of racial sensitivity. It just stood for a feeling of Southern Pride. Because it stood for a people that did not want a government to run their lives, no matter what it stood for or against.
“Save your Confederate money ‘cause the South’s gonna rise again!”
In my heart and the hearts of most of us in Dixie, we have have grown up believing that flag has stood for our guard against tyranny and oppression from any other flag or government.
And to Thomas Horn: The South Carolina government just wanted their fort back.
