Kayak trips to Telegraph Cove

The Johnstone strait is the number one non scientific reason for which I decided to do a PhD in British Columbia. It is one of the best places in the world to see orcas, with more than 100 of them calling it home during summer and enjoying the rubbing beaches of the Robson Bight ecological reserve! The Orca Lab has been studying them since 1970 and helped us understand the social life of these stunning creatures. I have been kayaking there every year since 2013. The concentration of marine wildlife is incredible, with pacific white-sided dolphins, Dall's porpoises, humpback whales, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, black and grizzly bear and... wild grad students! This trip has become one of the traditional summer excursions of my lab.

Three Sisters, Oregon

As I haven't been doing fieldwork so far, I devote part of my holidays to volcanoes! The Three Sisters is one of the most stunning hike I've been doing on the West Coast.
