I'm a teacher and researcher working in the areas of comparative ethics, philosophy of religion, and Wittgenstein studies. I am on the faculty at CUHK-Shenzhen, where I teach courses in philosophy, religious studies and interdisciplinary humanities.
I am the author of Rethinking Philosophy of Religion with Wittgenstein: Religious Diversities and Racism (Bloomsbury, 2025), Wittgenstein within the Philosophy of Religion (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), and various essays and articles on Wittgenstein, ethics, philosophy of religion, and comparative philosophy. With Anne Blackburn, I prepared for publication John Clayton’s posthumous book Religions, Reasons, and Gods: Essays in Cross-Cultural Philosophy of Religion (Cambridge University Press, 2006).
When permitted by publishers, I've posted papers here under research or on my profiles at PhilPeople, ResearchGate, and Academia.edu.
I'm also on Bluesky and Mastodon (@thomasdcarroll). From time to time, I also write short informal pieces on my blog.
