In partnership with economist colleagues, we are developing PCI Economics, a new platform dedicated to the peer-review and recommendation of preprints in economics, as part of the broader Peer Community In (PCI) initiative.
PCI is an open science initiative that promotes the transparent, open, and free dissemination of scientific research through community-based peer-review and public recommendations. Unlike traditional journals, PCI operates independently of publishers and makes all evaluations freely accessible, without publication fees for authors or paywalls for readers.
With PCI Economics, our goal is to bring this innovative model to the economics community - encouraging open peer-review, collaborative evaluation, and the wide dissemination of high-quality research across all fields of economics.

Peer Community In (PCI) is a non-profit and non-commercial organisation created and managed by scientists, for scientists. It offers peer-review, recommendation, and publication of scientific articles in open access, for free. PCI is funded by public research institutes and the funding is secured for the next twenty years at least.
Researchers can submit their latest work to obtain a free and open peer-review. Each submitted article is assigned to a recommender, who functions as an associate editor, and at least two reviewers. As for the standard submission system, papers go through one or several rounds of revisions, and once a satisfactory version is achieved, the article is recommended.
The recommendations are then published in the corresponding thematic PCI websites with a DOI and can be cited. After evaluation by the peer-review process, researchers can publish their article for free in one of the thematic PCIs, submit it to a PCI-friendly journal, or submit to any journal of their choice that is not affiliated with PCI.
You can find more information on the PCI website: https://peercommunityin.org/ and in the following detailed video:
Peer Community Journal is a generalist journal run by researchers for researchers and is funded by public research institutions. It is:
Unique - it is a single journal for all PCIs
Free - it is a diamond open-access journal (free for both authors and readers)
Exclusive - it publishes only articles recommended by PCI
Unconditional - it can publish any PCI-recommended article in its recommended version
Opt-in - it publishes articles only if the authors wish it
Immediate - after recommendation by a PCI, no delay between transfer to the journal and publication
Community-based
As of today, Peer Community Journal has twenty thematic PCIs that researchers can select to publish their work. All articles benefit from a diamond open access, for authors and readers. Peer Community Journal is already indexed by several databases, among which Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, and Open Alex.
As of December 31st, 2024, Peer Community In (PCI) has achieved the following milestones:
Over 2,000 recommenders
20 thematic PCIs
More than 100 PCI-friendly journals
1,886 submissions received
4,623 peer reviews completed
831 recommendations issued
393 articles published in PCI journals
205 supporting organizations backing the PCI platform
Here is a video explaining how Peer Community journal works:
In addition, PCI has created a platform, Peer Community In Registered Reports (PCI RR), specifically for Registered Reports. The platform is dedicated to receiving, reviewing, and recommending Registered Reports.
For economists, PCI-RR can be useful as few economic journals currently accept Registered Reports (see list of economic journals here: Registered Reports ).
How does it work?
