Online Burn Out Turned Creative Web Space
ONLINE SOCIAL SPACES HAVE BECOME UNFRIENDLY
i THINK EVERYONE WILL AGREE THAT SOCIAL MEDIA IS MOSTLY A TOXIC CESSPOOL NO MATTER WHAT WEBSITE YOU USE. i WON'T SIT HERE AND PRETEND THAT i DIDN'T ONCE ENJOY THEM. i LOVE CONNECTING WITH FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO ENJOY THE SAME THINGS AS I DO.
HOWEVER, IN RECENT YEARS, I FEEL LIKE PEOPLE IN THESE SPACES HAVE BECOME MEANER, more judgemental, and less willing to have a productive conversation.
The more time i spent on social media, the angry i felt. I wanted to escape that feeling, but i didn't want to abandon the community i had created and actually enjoyed.
the discovery of Indy websites
I had been interesting in "escaping" technology. I watched youtube channels about how people stopped being addicted to their phones or switched to a flip phone. i looked up e-ink phone and tablet solutions that didn't have powerful processors and didn't allow for high powered apps to run. i started browsing everyday carry and digital minimalist subreddits, to see what other digital escapists were doing to stop doom scrolling. I started carrying my old Nintendo DS. I started journaling and reading more physical books.
But I was still struggling. i didn't want to totally let go of my online presents and kept searching for some kind of compromise.
Then I found a youtube video about indy websites.
This youtube video by LuvstarKei IRL changed everything for me. I was so fascinated! I started exploring websites on neo cities, researching what would be a good hosting site for me, and brainstorming idea for what i would want on a website. i had had a blog before back in high school, why not try that again?
I was hooked and now on a mission to create my own website.
why google sites
I knew i needed a website host/manager that was easy to use and free. I had some html knowledge from a high school typing class i took over a decade ago. i had access to come ai code writing tools but didn't want to have to rely on that if i didn't have to.
even though neo cities and wordpress are more popular, i went with google because it was intuitive to use and a lot of google tools i was already familiar with were easy to integrate.
use my website to de-clutter my online places
now a days i feel like i have an app or account for everything:

i'M TIRED OF HAVING A DOZEN APPS AND ACCOUNTS THAT ONLY SERVE ONE PURPOSE. i WANTED A WEBSITE WHERE I COULD LOG ALL OF MY SOCIAL MEDIA, THOUGHTS, INTERESTS, AND ANYTHING ELSE i WANTED.
