The Xiang lab at the Bioengineering Department, University of California, Riverside (UCR), is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic team. Our lab focuses on the endosymbiosis between Symbiodiniaceae algae and cnidarians, such as corals, sea anemones, and jellyfish, which are cornerstones of marine ecosystems but have been increasingly threatened by environmental perturbations and stress. Despite the critical nature of cnidarian-Symbiodiniaceae symbiosis, the underlying mechanisms that govern this symbiotic interaction remain largely unknown. The Xiang laboratory aims to discover and characterize the functions of genes that govern Symbiodiniaceae endosymbiosis by applying high-throughput functional genomics tools.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will lead research projects aimed at understanding the relationships between corals and their algal symbionts. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to cutting-edge research in marine symbiosis.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and conduct experiments to explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms of coral-algal symbiosis.
• Collaborate with team members and external partners to advance research goals.
• Analyze data, prepare manuscripts, and present findings at scientific conferences.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biology, Marine Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
• Strong background in molecular biology and cell biology.
• Experience with cnidarians, algae, plants, protist, or microbes is highly desirable.
• Proven track record of research excellence, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
• Curriculum vitae (CV) including a list of publications.
• Contact information for three professional references.
